Kittrell is an unincorporated community located along U.S. Route 70S within Rutherford County, Tennessee, situated seven miles east of Murfreesboro. It is part of the zip code 37149 that is assigned to Readyville. It is located seven miles east of Murfreesboro.
The town is named after major Marion B. Kittrell who left his farm and moved to the region in the vicinity of Cripple Creek on July 18 the 18th of July, 1874. The first post office in the area was opened in 1884, but was shut down when rural free delivery sometime around 1903. Kittrell has been home to a number of churches and schools over the years , but they have all been demolished or abandoned due to fire. Aunt Dave Macon purchased a home in the community in the year 1900 and it remains today. Other places of interest are Pilot Knob (also claimed by Readyville) as well as the school for elementary students, as well as a fire department that is volunteer.
